Kelley & Farren’s seven attorneys focus exclusively on estate planning, trust administration and probate matters.  They bring a wide range of experience to the office and collectively have spent decades working in the field of estate planning.

Colin Kelley

Partner, Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law

Colin is partner in the firm and is the son of founding partner John P. Kelley (deceased). Colin has a B.A. from UC San Diego (1997) and a law degree from the UC Berkeley School of Law (2006). Colin is a Certified Specialist in Probate, Estate Planning, and Trust Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Prior to joining Kelley & Farren in 2011, Colin clerked for the Honorable Walter L. Carpeneti of the Alaska Supreme Court and practiced litigation at a prominent
national law firm, focusing on securities litigation and other complex commercial litigation. Colin is fluent in Spanish.

Christine Hoburg

Partner, Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law

Christine is a partner in the firm. She has a B.S. in Business Administration from Sonoma State University (2000) and a law degree from UC College of the Law, San Francisco (2003), with a Tax Concentration. Christine is a Certified Specialist in Probate, Estate Planning, and Trust Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization and is licensed by the California Board of Accountancy as a Certified Public Accountant. Prior to joining Kelley & Farren in 2005, Christine worked for Deloitte Tax, LLP, preparing corporate, partnership, trust, individual, estate and gift tax returns.

Lisa Fialco

Partner, Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law

Lisa is partner in the firm. She has a B.A. from Wesleyan University (1993) and a law degree from the UC Berkeley School of Law (2000). She is a Certified Specialist in Probate, Estate Planning, and Trust Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Lisa is the author of recent editions of a guidebook to estate administration, “How to Probate an Estate in California -- A Step-by-Step Guide,” published by Nolo Press. She also regularly presents public seminars on estate planning topics for local community organizations including By the Bay Health. Prior to joining Kelley & Farren in 2010, Lisa litigated consumer protection and antitrust matters for the Federal Trade Commission and in the private sector. She also served as a law clerk for the Alaska Supreme Court.

Meeghan L. Buckley

Associate

Meeghan is an associate in the firm. She has a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles (2001) and a law degree from the UC College of Law San Francisco (2005). Meeghan joined Kelley & Farren in October 2014.

Alexander S. Rifkind
Alex is an associate in the firm. He has a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2012), and a law degree from Golden Gate University School of Law (2021). Alex joined Kelley & Farren in March 2022.

Carolyn M. Farren

Of Counsel

Carolyn M. Farren

Carolyn, a founding partner, is now of counsel to the firm. In this role she continues to handle a wide range of client matters.  She has a Bachelor of Arts from UC Berkeley (1966) and a law degree from the UC College of the Law, San Francisco (1969). Ms. Farren has authored numerous books in the field.  She was recognized as a Super Lawyer beginning in 2012. Ms. Farren served on the Board of Directors and advisory boards to By the Bay Health (formerly Hospice of Marin) and Audubon Canyon Ranch for many years.

In memoriam

John P. Kelley (1941-2011)

John was a founding partner of the firm. He died of lymphoma in September 2011. John practiced estate planning for over thirty-five years, and he loved his job. He will be deeply missed. John’s legacy at Kelley & Farren lives on, in part through his son, Colin Kelley, who is a partner in the firm.
